RE: Final Results Chrysler/48RE Drama

The previous transmission repair was done at the same stealership that denied the warranty claim. The silicone was never a part of the warranty issue. It was found after the truck was moved to another shop.If that was the ONLY other work ever done on the trans I think you would be quite justified in going after to the previous dealership for your out-of pocket expenses.

RE: Help with 12 volt solution

Just remember, whatever solution you decide on to produce 110V from 12V will only provide significant 110V power for a very short time unless you have a LOT of batteries. If your wife thinks she will be running the microwave, coffee-pot, toaster, electric kettle, big TV, hair dryer etc I think she will be VERY disappointed. It really depends on what she is expecting to use. Yes, you can buy a 3000watt inverter, but that will draw more than 250 amps from your batteries if you approach its full capacity. Your standard single RV battery will be dead in 20 minutes.(or less!)

RE: fuse to slideout?

Thanks,I found it.It was right next to the battery like bubby's rv said.Your are a lifesaver,Thanks, againGlad you solved the problem, but it did not need to be a show-stopper - you can always break out the manual crank! (assuming you have one of course!) One of the things I did with my fiver was figure out how to get on the road if my 12V system went down. I only have one slide and the front legs to worry about, but now I have practiced I know I can get mobile even if those systems will not operate under their own power.

RE: Winterize Outside Shower Only - Possible?

The only way to isolate the outside shower from the rest of the system would be to cut two in-line shut-off valves into the lines that go to the outside shower. These valves need to be within the warm zone of the unit. You could then blow the system clear of water, close the valves, then refill the rest of the water system. Or simply blow the lines to the outside shower clear while they are still disconnected. Alternatively provide some form of heat to the outside shower unit itself. A light bulb behind it would suffice in temperatures a few degrees below freezing.

RE: Final Results Chrysler/48RE Drama

Big difference between "silicon" and "silicone". If the silicone was from a sealant applied to the pan gasket I'm not surprised Chrysler denied warranty. OP needed to find out who applied it and go after them (assuming it was some kind of repair shop).

RE: Why aren't Canadians having a crisis?

It is interesting to note that the Canadian exchange rate with the US is rising even as the US crisis is shaping up. Just recently the US dollar was weaker than the Canadian and today the exchange rate is US $1.15 vs about .92 just a year ago. Maybe it's just the way you wrote it but the way I read it I think you have it backwards - the Canadian dollar has weakened by 8¢ since 10/1 and today (according to XE.COM) US$1 is worth CDN$1.16 (or CDN$1 is worth 86.4¢US). Why? who knows!!!

RE: Water Engine?

Still waiting for that report from an accredited lab to make me change my position that: 1) "water contains no available energy". And 2) "it takes more energy to produce the Hydrogen than is returned by burning it".

RE: Why aren't Canadians having a crisis?

They've got it easy with their FREE healthcare, is why. :)You might want to do a little research on that "Free" stuff. It is paid out of Provincial revenues. When I left Ontario in 1992 I was paying 55% income tax on my top dollar plus 15% Sales tax. Since then I understand Ontario at least has added up to a $900 additional Healthcare assessment to their annual tax return. And the "service" is so good that a lot of Canadians head South so they can get treatment without waiting 2, 4, 6 months! And yes, they pay for it (usually with partial reimbursement from their Canadian insurance). "Free" - hardly!!!

So where did the silicone come from?

RE: Turn Signals

but the guy at the auto parts store says there is no flasher, that its all int the turn signal lever. You sure he wasn't an RV Salesman?? OF COURSE there's a flasher unit! The original unit may only have the capacity to flash the turn signals on the MH, but not the toad. In this case you simply need to replace it with a HD flasher designed to handle as many lights as you are flashing. Many people simply use another hazard flasher, which will work, but you lose the "failed bulb" flash rate change alert. On vehicles with combined brake/turn lamps, the turn signal switch simply connects the flasher to the turn signals while at the same time it DISCONNECTS the brake light on the side that is flashing.

RE: Crossing into the USA-What foods are forbidden

Take nothing...zip, nada, noddink. The best part of this? you get to go shopping when you get to the first shopping center and get all kinds of cool stuff you might otherwise not have. Gary HauptI agree with Gary. Plus the probability is the stuff will be CHEAPER on the US side of the border anyway. Only exception I have consistently found is breakfast cereals.

RE: Prodigy Brake Controller Install

Kaydeejay, I stand corrected. It is 2 of the 4, not 3. Sorry. BruceNot a problem. They could ALL be 12g if that's all you have, just that ground and signal don't NEED that much.

RE: Prodigy Brake Controller Install

The only wires that need to be 12g are those feeding the brake controller and the one blue one that goes back to the brakes. The others (ground and signal) can be a lot lighter. I'd agree with that. Id agree too but there are only 4 wires total. So this means only 1 doesnt need to be 12 ga. The one for the brake light switch turn-on. Red, White, and Blue should be 12 ga. The white (ground) is a return and should be the same as the red. ...or am I missing something? The only HEAVY current is from the supply to the controller and from the controller out to the brakes. Current through the signal wire is minimal and the ground current is less than 1 amp (it is NOT a return, it does not complete the brake circuit). So I will stick to my original statement - supply and line to the brakes needs to be 12g, the other two could be 24g for all I see is needed.

I would also go with 12 G on the ground.Could you please explain why, seeing as there is only a current flow in milliamps? It simply provides a reference for the internal electronics and a ground for the LEDs.

RE: Adapter 15amp/30amp to 50 amp

In fairness his listing does say: "NOT FOR USE IN PARKS WITH GFI RECEPTACLES." but the whole idea of this providing a 50A service is just plain wrong. Perhaps it provides HALF of a 50A service. (50A @ 110V but certainly not 2x50A @ 110V).

RE: Install water heater bypass kit??

I agree with Bumpy. If you can get to the pipes at the back of the water heater then it's not a big deal. I've done a couple of 'em. Plastic pipe or copper, compression fittings would get my vote. Good luck

RE: 220 volt from 110 vac?

You can get 220 volts from a 50A outlet at a campground and also from a range/dryer outlet at home. Where are you going to be that you need 220v if not at one of these two locations?

RE: Got to make choice by Friday, 5th wheel or TT

A trailer is a trailer, no matter how you connect it. Just flip a coin, heads the 5w, tails the TT. Don't pay any attention to how the coin lands, but while it's in the air, you will be wishing for one side or the other, and you'll know which one you really want. Then just ask the wife which one you are allowed to buy.Not exactly correct. A fiver will always load more weight onto the truck than a similar sized TT. The question is whether that will overload the truck or not.
